FREEWARE Utilites to Keep Your Computer Safe & Clean
Plus a few other good programs!
   Freeware that will help you keep your system clean and remove useless software and spyware
and some very useful programs . These offerings are "Use At Your Own Risk". We have tested/used
each of these programs on Windows XP and Vista, however, that does not mean they will work on
your system. If you're not sure, or are using Vista or Windows 7, please check the programs website
for further information. Most have versions available for 32 and 64 bit systems.

   We STRONGLY recommend that you do a backup before installing or running any of these programs.
It's cheap insurance in case something goes wrong! That being said, we have found that regular use
of these programs has kept our system running very well. All these programs are free, however many
have a 'paid" version that offers more features. If you find a Free interesting application that you would
like to share just send us the info and we will see about adding it.

Web Browsers/Email:
  • Firefox - HIgh performance, easy customization and high security.

  • Google Chrome - Google Chrome is a browser that combines a
    minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web
    faster, safer, and easier.

  • Opera - You've probably seen this on mobile phones. It's an
    excellent browser and is available for PC, MAC and Linux.

  • Apple Safari - New features and tools. For Apple and PC.

  • Thunderbird - Need an Email program for Windows 7 -
    Check out Thunderbird. It's an Email program and much
    more.

Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, Firewall Protection:
  • Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Security Essentials

    against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

  • Avast - Free antivirus with anti-spyware protection for
    Windows 7, Vista, or XP. Avast! Free Antivirus has better
    detection than competing paid-for products!

  • Malwarebytes - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can detect and
    remove malware/spyware that even the most well known
    anti-virus and anti-malware applications fail to detect.
    We highly reccomend this program!

  • Comodo - This Free Firewall and Antivirus software work
    together to keep your PC safe from viruses and Hackers.

System Utilities to keep your computer running smooth and fast.
  • CCleaner - the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. It protects
    your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure.
    Easy to use and a small, fast download.
    We highly reccomend this program!

  • Speccy - Speccy is an advanced System Information tool for your PC.
    Need to find out what's inside your computer? No problem! Speccy will
    give you all the information you need.

  • Recuva - Accidentally deleted an important
    file? Lost something important when your computer crashed?
    No problem!

    Recuva recovers files deleted from your Windows computer,
    Recycle Bin, digital camera card, or MP3 player. And it's free!

Programs:
  • OpenOffice.org - OpenOffice.org is the leading open-source office software
    suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases
    and more. It is Microsoft Office compatible and it's Free!
    We highly reccomend this program!

  • SharePod - A Free application to transfer music and video files from an
    iPod/iPod Touch/iPhone to a PC and PC to iPod/iPod Touch/iPhone.

  • VLC - VLC is a powerful Media Player, playing most of the media codecs
    and video formats out there. And whats more, VLC can play back your
    files, even if the media is damaged! Missing or broken pieces wont stop
    VLC. All the video and audio information that remains can be played.

  • Ubuntu - Is a Linux based Operating System. Ubuntu is easy to use and
    it comes with thousands of free applications. Ubuntu does everything you
    need it to. It will work with your existing PC files, printers, cameras and MP3
    players.

       If you ever wanted to see what a linux based system is like this is the the
    one to check out! You can run it "live" (without installing it) from a disk,
    install it as your operating system or have a "Dual Boot" where you can
    chose which operating system you want to use at startup.
